About This Place

Sunset Cafe is a vibrant and inviting destination in Portugal that masterfully blends the best of a cafe, bar, fast food restaurant, and sit-down dining experience. Nestled at 7630-765 Rua da Calcada 1, this lively spot offers not only tantalizing dishes but also some of the most breathtaking views of the Atlantic coast, making it a true gem for locals and travelers alike.

Stepping into Sunset Cafe, you immediately sense the laid-back yet energetic atmosphere that pulses through the place. The spacious outdoor seating, shaded by lush greenery, provides the perfect refuge during sunny days while presenting an unbeatable panoramic vista—especially at sunset, as many guests eagerly share. Maurice, one of the patrons, describes it perfectly: "Very nice Bar with perfect Seaview and plenty of shade during the day to enjoy your drinks and food." This seamless connection between nature and hospitality is a defining feature of Sunset Cafe.

The menu is an eclectic celebration of Portuguese flavors with a contemporary twist. Must-try delicacies include the crispy, golden Choco Frito Batata Frita (fried cuttlefish with fries) and the fiery yet comforting Bifana, a spicy pork sandwich that melts in your mouth. For lighter bites, the Caracoles (snails) present a classic Portuguese petisco, inviting diners to savor authentic local flavors. Pair these with refreshing drinks such as the Mojito, Gin Tónico Com Frutos Silvestres (gin and tonic with wild berries), or the house favorites like Beer Sun & Sea and a chilled Sangria. Beer lovers will appreciate the Vinho à Pressão (wine on tap), adding a unique local touch to the beverage selection.

Visitors like David Wilson find themselves captivated by more than just the food: "Brilliant bar with majestic views of the awesome Atlantic waves crashing onto the age-old cliffs and sandy beach. Captivating... Food was extremely good and very affordable." Such rich sensory experiences—from the sound of waves to the tang of sea spray mingling with aromatic dishes—transform a simple meal into a moment of genuine connection with the environment.

A notable aspect of Sunset Cafe is its dynamic vibe, enriched by excellent music that varies daily, as Pawel Lesiak points out. The young, friendly staff speak English and work swiftly even during busy periods, ensuring you never feel rushed or ignored. The only area for growth mentioned by Maurice is the addition of vegan options to complement the wide variety of petiscos, which would make the menu even more inclusive.

That said, the location can be a bit tricky to find via Google Maps, but a short stroll from the town center easily leads you there—an effort well rewarded by the welcoming atmosphere and top-notch coastal views. Although some discrepancies exist around closing times (Roman Matoušek notes the cafe actually closes at 10pm rather than 4am), the overall consensus is that Sunset Cafe is the kind of place you’ll want to return to, again and again.

Whether you're chasing a perfect sunset cocktail, craving authentic Portuguese fast food, or simply seeking a laid-back spot to unwind with friends, Sunset Cafe effortlessly delivers on all fronts. It’s a feel-good escape that leaves you with the warm glow of the sun, the satisfaction of great food, and memories of a truly captivating seaside ambiance.

Very nice Bar with perfect Seaview and planty of shade durinr the day to enjoy your drinks and food. Service and bar is fast considering the load of work they have to do. I would have loved to see some Vegan options on the menu, would have been a nice to have some 'petiscos' with our beers and drinks during sunset. We will come back and see if they are available in the futur

Good place, good drinks. But they closed at 10pm (does not agree with google hours - should close at 4am)

Again difficult place to find on google maps (you need to zoom in 4x times from default view) but super easy by having a walk in center, so recommend latter method. As name suggest, perfect spot for watching sunsets when weather is on your side. Very friendly young staff, speaking english. Tasty dishes, inexpensive drinks. Almost forgot - great music that varies daily!

Brilliant bar with majestic vies of the awesome Atlantic waves crashing onto the age old cliffs and Sandy beach. Captivating. Now to the bar itself. Great service, English speaking host with a fine sense of humour. Food was extremely good and very affordable. Would be back. Definitely would be back.

We ate here for 5 straight lunchtimes in October. Loved the food, atmosphere and friendly service. The music was a bit loud, but it was mainly reggae or similar, so contributed to a chilled vibe. Each day we had a main of tuna toasties or prawns, with a mixed salad. The prawns (with the homemade sauce) were to die for. Price was ridiculously cheap.

We cane here for a couple drinks with views to the sunset. We ended up ordering clams and fried prawns. Both were very good! The music volume allowed for conversation. Would recommend.

Very friendly staff! Cold beer, nice toast and breathtaking view! We were searching for a spot to chill in the shade, and this was perfect. Would come again to at least try the fries, that are homemade and not frozen
